It was founded in 1879 as the Toronto Industrial Exhibition, but changed its name to the Canadian National Exhibition in 1912. In November 1922 the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (or just "The Royal") was first held in the Coliseum. During World War I Exhibition place was used as a military and housing centre known as Exhibition Camp.
It remains one of the 10 largest fairs in North America.
