This is the unedited live line cut from kd lang's first big Toronto concert, filmed for a MuchMusic Big Ticket Special on May 22, 1985 at the Ontario Place Forum.It was only a one hour broadcast, so over 50 minutes of this tape has never been seen before. I've recorded kd lang several times since then, but this is still my favourite, when she was virtually unknown outside of Alberta. The audio mix is my live mix. Nofixups or overdubs or autotune.
This performance occurred during a pivotal year in lang's early career, just months before her iconic appearance at the 1985 Juno Awards on November 4. At that awards ceremony, she famously accepted the award for Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year while wearing a wedding dress as a piece of performance art. During her acceptance speech, she vowed to always sing for the right reasons.
