The Rheostatics formed in 1978 just outside of Toronto, Ontario as an unconventional, but influential Canadian rock band.
Additional facts about The Rheostatics
- The band played their first gig at Toronto's legendary club The Edge in February 1980 (with drummer Rod Westlake before he left the band and was replaced with Dave Clark).
- On the Tragically Hip’s album Live Between Us (May 1997), Gordon Downie says over the beginning of the first track 'Grace Too:' This is for the Rheostatics – we are all richer for having seen them tonight.
- The band only had one Top 40 hit - Claire - in 1995.
- Two of the band's albums, Melville (released in 1991) and Whale Music (released in 1992) have been cited in numerous critical and listener polls as among the best Canadian albums ever recorded.
