Historic timeline

The building originally served as the German-Canadian Club Harmonie in the 1950's
In the summer of 1984 The Diamond Club (1984-1991) took over the premises. Initially open Thursdays through Saturdays - as a dance club with concerts held only occasionally. Food was served in a restaurant located at the back of the club, in a room that became known as The Grapevine.
The Diamond closed in 1991, and the space reopened as the Phoenix Concert Theatre eleven months later. The westerly wall where The Diamond’s main stage once stood became The Phoenix’ long main bar.
On October 25, 2024, co-owner and operator Lisa Zbitnew announced that the venue planned to secure a new location, but would continue to operate on Sherbourne Street until 2026 when the site will be redeveloped as condos by Graziani + Corazza Architects.
