A short history of the Volvo's first car - the OV4 (nickname "Jakob"). The name is a short form of "Öppen Vagn 4 cylindrar" or "open carriage 4 cylinders" which was designed specifically to be suitable for Swedish roads around Stockholm, and Swedish weather. The 4-door car had a steel frame and wooden body covered in steel panels painted in dark blue, a three speed transmission, and the 4-cylinder engine produced about 28hp. In total 275 vehicles were sold between 1927 and 1929.
