Global Affairs Canada has a web page to monitor the status of imports of electric vehicles from China

In early 2026 it was announced by the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that:

Fifty per cent of these Chinese EVs will have to come in with an import price of less than $35,000. We don't know which vehicles will make the cut, but existing companies in Canada may bring in their Chinese manufactured cars, like Mini, Volvo, Polestar and Buick.

What Chinese brands will sell cars in Canada?

More interesting, of course, is the prospect of brands never sold in Canada opening up shop, like Chery or BYD - the two Chinese automakers that met with Canadian Ministers. Zeekr automotive is also a possibility. Many of these reviews are from Europe or Australia where these cars are now available - only time will tell if they make it to the Canadian market.
