Spadina House (Now Spadina Museum)Three houses have been built on the site - the first house was built and designed in 1818 by Dr. William Baldwin which burned down in 1835. He built a second, smaller house in 1836 on the same foundation, which was torn down in 1866 by the new owner, James Austin when he had the current Spadina House built, which stands to this day.The original 80 acres of land were used for farming, but was gradually sold off - the estate now sits on 5.7 acres with "an orchard, a grape arbour and a kitchen garden, along with the more formal areas of lawn and display beds." The buildings and grounds are now the Spadina Museum run by the City of Toronto Spadina House is just one of the many estates that have stood along "The Davenport Hill" in Toronto the most famous of which is Casa Loma right next door.
