Central to the area is the brick works - originally a paper mill that opened in the 1830's, the clay in the ravine made it a natural spot for a brick works which ran from 1889 through the 1980's.
While the riverbed was used for commercial purposes for years, it also lies just south east of Rosedale, with the most expensive house ever built in Canada (at the time) - the forth and final Government House in Ontario - Chorley Park.
