Mountain biking in Southern Ontario

|

There are lot of great trails in Southern Ontario, and not suprisingly they are used by hikers, mountain bikers, dog walkers, trail runners, ATVs, snow mobiles and cross country skiers, and even on horseback. Usually things go smoothly, but sometimes there are bound to be conflicts.

While the Bruce Trail is primarily a hiking trail, there are sections (or paths near the trail) that permit mountain biking. I've been to two so far:

Check out http://www.mtbthebruce.com/ for locations of the rides, photos, even some video. It is a ways north of Toronto, but I hope to make it up that way some time this year, and will add more details and photos. Right now they have the following trails open:

If you're looking for more information on responsible, sustainable mountain biking, the best place to start is with IMBA Canada (the International Mountain Bicycling Association). I attended one of their great trail building classes a few years back.

And finally, if you're looking for even more information on mountain bike trails in Southern Ontario, check out the list collected by Bayview Cycle.
